I have a few things I would like to achieve while I am riding around the planet… I have listed the places I want to see on each continent, and will provide the list of each as soon as I have crossed over the boundaries dividing them. The AFRICA LIST has been completed and I will load this when I cross the border into Namibia next week.
I have also resolved to swim in all 5 Oceans, and yesterday I decided that I had better get on with this particular challenge, as it is quite possible that after Cape Aghulas, I will not encounter the Indian Ocean until I am in South East Asia sometime next year… If you’ve ever been to Struisbaai, you will know that there are a few reasons why swimming there has never taken off in a big way…. Firstly, the sea there is usually rougher than a badgers bum…just wetter… And secondly, those ski-boats out there aren’t fishing, dear friends…. The buggers are chumming for Great White Sharks to present “up close and personal” sightings to the cage diving fraternity…. No sirreee…!!! Better to get the Indian Ocean bit done here in Natal….

Charmaine and I went down to Manaba Beach, just north of Margate, and I waded in and got the 1st Ocean “squared away”…

The water was a lot colder than I had expected, but after the blazing hot days we have been having here on the South Coast, the cold water was a welcome relief…. I caught a few waves and noticed that I was one of only three people in the water…. I wandered if the poster in the car park had anything to do with the absence of bathers…
One down...four to go !!
I will dip into the Pacific Ocean in Australia and probably Peru as well; the Arctic Ocean in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska; the Antarctic in Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina, and then do the Atlantic Ocean in Rio de Janeiro…. Saving the best for last, Dudes !! And cold or not, I think I’ll stay in the water a lot longer than I did today… Apparently the views on the Rio beaches are “stunning”… Must be the mountains in the background, I suppose….

You needn’t worry you’re too skinny for a good Indian Ocean shark!
Just to be safe, I always swim with a sharp object in my pocket…. If I see a shark, the person closest to me is gonna bleed before I do….
