The Return of the Needle…!!

You may remember that I have had a little problem with my shoulder joints, and the last few days riding brought back a little niggle, which I can honestly do without !!

I therefore (bravely) decided to let those medical chaps have another go at getting it sorted… I managed to get an urgent appointment with Dr. Pierre du Plessis, who after manipulating my arms back and forth for a few minutes agreed that another few shots of Cortisone would be “just the ticket”…

He was convincing…and I was paying… Two things that make a visit to the doctor a pleasure for both parties….

I sat and watched as he prepared the syringes, felt the usual light headedness, which comes when the blood heads south to your feet… My sister sat there smirking, her cellphone ready to get a shot of me face down on the floor…

Begin with the manipulations...

First the Left Shoulder....

Then the Right Shoulder...

Then smiles all round at a job well done...

After my vision had cleared, (must have been that thousand yard stare I’ve become so good at….!) I stood up and wondered briefly why the room was tilted at a strange angle, and my sister seemed to leaning a little too far to the left…

“I think you should lie down for a while…” said he who knows a fainter when he sees one…

While I lay contemplating the ceiling, he checked my blood pressure, heart rate, eyes, ears and even my teeth… Personally, I think he did all this to allow me time to gather my dignity !!

It was then all smiles, a firm handshake and good wishes from the staff, before a swift ride home to continue my convalescence with a stiff whiskey, shared with my father, while my dear sister related my ordeal at the doctor to my mother, who spent a lot of time doubled up with laughter….

And I didn’t even get a plaster this time….
