What are it…?

The Trans-Kgalikadi Highway is lined on each side with a wide swathe of bright yellow flowers. I must assume that the seeds are spread by passing vehicles, as this flower does not grow more than 20 metres or so off the road. I hopped off the bike, and slugging from my water bottle as I went,

These yellow flowers line the road on either side all way through the Kalahari...

walked into the bush to check, (curiosity is a strong part of my make-up !), and disturbed thousands of Monarch Butterflies, and a few other species that I could not identify… They lifted in clouds around me as I tramped through the knee high flowers… It was a great moment for me, watching them flit up into the air and then settle down again moments later… Should have had my video camera with me…

Butterfly Stop...

I wondered what kind of flowers they were and decided to involve you guys out there to assist me in identifying them… Many minds make info accessible !! They look like a kind of Daisy to me, but I’ll leave it to you to work out !!!

Did you think this was just about reading…?? Sorry for you !! Time to get involved, Dudes !!

Here are a few more photos to assist you….

The Bright Yellow flowers that attract so many butterflies...

They grow in sandy soil and the individual plants are about half a metre apart...

I’ll be expecting your homework to be handed in promptly !!
