Moseying on to Melbourne…

I was up at dawn’s crack, and had the Big Fella loaded and ready to roll, long before anybody else at the Port Campbell Motor Inn showed signs of life…

First stop, the Twelve Apostles...

Early morning on the Great Ocean Road... A view to warm even the coldest biker...!!

Beautiful seascapes all along the coastline...

Breakfast stop at Lavers Hill roadhouse for coffee and a muffin...

"Hey Boy...!! What are you doing with that pick-up around your neck...??"

Annabel of Lavers Hill... Another "the world is a small place moment"...!! She is waiting for Simon and Lisa Thomas to visit... I met them on their RTW ride in Laos, and spent a few days with them in the same hotel in Vientiene...!!

While sitting at the roadhouse, enjoying the early morning sunshine, a lady and her dogs arrived and we struck up a conversation… Turns out her doctor in the UK is the sister of Lisa Thomas, and they have made arrangements to stay over at Annabel’s home when Lisa and Simon pass through Australia… Small world indeed…!!

Obstacles aplenty on the way down to Otway Lighhouse...

With an entrance fee of $20, this is as close as I got to the lighthouse...!!

Back on the Great Ocean Road.... A cycle race and traffic spoiled the ride a little, but I nevertheless got to experience some open sections where the Big Fella let loose...!!

We stopped just short of Lorne to take in the scenery...

After Darwin, Perth and Adelaide, this was the fourth major city on my Aussie Tour....

The Melbourne skyline comes into view as we battle through afternoon traffic...

After a lazy ride from Port Campbell, I arrived in Melbourne and made my way to the home of Richard and Kym Goodwin in Rowville, my hosts for the next few days, while I prepare to visit Tasmania, and ride on to Sydney…

Parked at the Goodwin residence, Rowville, Melbourne...

An inquisitive Echidna wandered through the garden...

My first night in Melbourne was capped off with a “braai” in the good old South African tradition…!!

Not a vegetable in sight...!! A great South African welcome to Melbourne...!!

Glad you got to experience some of the beauty of the Great Ocean Road and the trip to Melbourne – have fun!

  • Very good. I myself live in the suburb alongside Rowville. Watch out for the speed cameras in Victoria Ronnie. Intersections are speed and redlight monitoring.
