It hasn’t All been fun and games, you know…!!

There’s been some exercise and other activities involved too…!!

Mistress Patricia insisted on a kayak trip, for instance...

Where we stopped to share a "jar" of wine...!! Mine tasted vaguely of carrot juice...!!

And then a surreal evening when I thought we were back in Bali…!!

The Boys from Bali... All decked out in preparation for the midnight ceremony...

The Balinese girls were there too...

This time I was able to enjoy Pete's wine from a paper cup... One day, I am going to try drinking it from a glass...!!

Island Beauties... Eka from Bali and my future WTB ...!!

Included in the package, is my own private chef...!!

As you can see, I have been as busy as the proverbial bee…!!

There have been long, cramp-inducing walks; swimming in turquoise waters; some snake-catching; a dose of acupuncture; a re-introduction to meditation; and so far, a sneaky avoidance of yoga…

So, just in case you believe I was here to rest…

Scroll down to see….

Today I am having lobster for lunch, and working on…

So much to do, so little time… (Sigh….!!)

    Hi Ronnie,
Am loving your blog! My wife and I are leaving for Buenos Aires on the 7th of March for a 4 m trip around the continent, 2-up on our 1200 GS
I read with interest your experience with the R40 wind! 🙂
In perspective, we rode the Isolo Marsabit road 2-up in 2006 on a Dakar; Any special tips for surviving that wind?
    Kindest and happy travelling!
    Andrew

  • Andrew Lawson

Ps we are both from cape town!

  • Hi Andrew…!! Tips for surviving the wind… Well, a few “Our Father’s”, half a dozen “Hail Mary’s”, a well practiced “death grip”, a gum guard to prevent you from getting lock-jaw, and you’ll be fine…!! Ha..!! Also, get used to seeing the road by looking between your windscreen and either of your side mirrors… That’s the angle you will be riding at for long stretches…!! Fact is, some of the wind I have experienced in Cape Town, can be just as bad, so if you’re used to riding in that, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect…!! If the bike is really being pushed around, then you might want to deflate your tyres a bit, say 2.4 Bar at the back and 1.8 Bar in the front…. That will give you a few more ounces of grip…!! Normally I ride with about 2.8 Bar in the rear and 2.4 Bar in the front… Have you decided on a route yet…?? Are you going to do Ushuaia…?? If so, you should get down there as fast as possible… March/April starts to get very cold and the weather is very unpredictable…!! Take care and enjoy your ride… I will be in Uruguay and Brazil by the 7th of March, so will miss you by a week or so…!! Pity, but I have to haul ass to get to Alaska by July…!! R.

  • Andrew Lawson

    Thanks Ronnie!
I seldom ride harder than 2.5 back; good thinking!
Yeah, we are going to make a beeline for Ushuaia on the route 3? And from there pretty much follow your route to San Carlos de bariloche in reverse?! Then into Peru via chile?
Ushuaia by mid march should be ok??

Thanks for the reply, and sorry we are going to miss you!

  • Andrew Lawson
