Long Road to Nordkapp…
After the conflict was all said and done,
In search of some sanity, I chose a long run…
From summer-time in South Africa to autumn in Norway
The road-ways were like battlefields and we fought them all the way…
*
It was in Addis in the morning I had a wake-up call,
The Big Fella reared without a warning, put me in the wall…
I rode to Bahir Dar and Gondar with aching shoulder blades
Through Khartoum and Dongola, up Wadi Halfa way…
*
The Sahara’s there to crucify anyone who will not learn.
I rode through mountains to qualify, went flat through some turns…
We were north of Dodoma when the Big Fella good as died,
In the wilderness under a bright full moon, I sat head in hands and cried…
*
But we got back on the road again, eating up the miles,
And in June up in Egypt, we rode along the Nile…
Then it was on through North Africa, riding like a G.I. Joe,
Dodoma long forgotten, where my rear shock let go…
*
Through England to Germany I felt the pain and the hurt,
Hoping all the while that my prayers would be heard…
We caned it through Sweden, passed Finland’s cool blue lakes.
And on the windswept road to Nordkapp, we made no mistakes…
