Hi Ronnie. Machu Pichhu. I was there on my 1st world tour (backpacking)in 1977. I bought a round the world air ticket with umlimited stops. Started in Buenos Aires in Feb 1977 and followed the sun around the world with no plans after I stepped off the plane in each country. Flew from La Paz to LA and bought a used Honda 750F1 and camping gear at an army surplus store. For the next 9 months I rode through 26 states in the USA & Canada. A long story. Made friends that I am still in contact with. Met my wife in NZ, still married and living in CT. Thats history.
This week I booked the 1st leg of my next RTW tour (by m/cycle). 3 weeks ago I watched Henry Cole’s BBC bike trip from Sydney to Perth. I was so fired up after watching it I started dreaming. 3 days later I told the family I was going. Started with HU to learn about the details, e.g.shipping the bike etc. Found your blog and started reading from Darwin. From Perth you did exactly what I plan to do, starting Monday 1 Oct. Love your blog. A great talent, but hectic commitment. Because you provide such detail I have learnt a lot from you. Amazed at qty of spares you took. How many have you used? (I will also be on a 1200GS) My very best wishes. Look forward to meeting you one day.

Hi Trevor….!! Welcome aboard the GBWT…!! Thanks for the comment and wishes, much appreciated…!! My first stop back in SA will be Cape Town, so meeting you then will be great… Spares…?? Hardly used any of them mate…!! But then I have serviced every 10 000 km, and 90 % at BMW dealers around the world, so I think that has been the key… The Big Fella has his 150 k service coming up at Lima BMW next week… I am glad that I carried a spare set of shocks with me, as my Ohlins have gone belly up 3 times…!! I f I did not have a spare set with me, I would have been in the dwang…!! Take care, and look forward to meeting you in November…!! R.
Trev…!! Machu Picchu was frikking awesome….!! Every man, woman and child should get their backsides up here…!! Cuzco is great, plan to spend a week here…!! You, not me….!! I gotta get my ass up to Saltspring…!! BTW… Is my room finished yet…?? Ha…!! Love to “Mom”…!! R.
